At the meeting on 19th, the Monetary Committee of the Bank of Botswana decided to increase the Bank Rate by 50 basis points from 15% to 15.5%. This represents a further proactive move in order to achieve low inflation path over the medium term. While the recent upward trend in inflation has mainly infected raising global prices for fuel and oil, growing pressure on demand and potential second-round represent upside risks at monetary policy should seek to contain, together with inflation expectations. The bank remains committed to responding appropriately to all economical and financial developments to keep inflation under control.
