In March, headline inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased for the sixth month in succession, rising to 9.8 percent from 9.0 percent in February. This was on the back of rising inflation for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (from 3.2 percent to 5.1 percent), transport (11.3 percent to 14.9 percent) and recreation and culture (1.0 percent to 4.1 percent). However, there was some easing in food price inflation which fell from 18.5 percent to 18.0 percent, and there were declines in several other categories. Inflation for tradeable goods and services rose by 0.7 percent from 11.3 percent to 12.0 percent in March, while inflation for non-tradeables also rose, from 3.8 percent to 4.8 percent.
