The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has made some revisions to the price indices several commodity groups for the period February to March 2007. This resulted in revisions to the inflation rate as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) raised from 7.2 percent to 7.3 percent in February, and from 6.3 percent to 6.5 percent in March.
In April, inflation continued the downward trend of recent months, falling to 6.3 percent, a marginal decline (0.2 percent) from the revised March figure. Month-on-month, significant upward movements were shown in several group indices, including food (1.2 percent), alcohol and tobacco (2.5 percent), furnishing, household equipment and maintenance (1.3 percent), recreation and culture (3.7 percent) and restaurants and hotels (1.5 percent). However, other indices remained broadly stable, with small declines registered for health (-0.9 percent) and communication (-0.2 percent). By tradeability, inflation increased marginally, from 6.7 percent to 6.8 percent in the tradeable category; whilst for non-tradable goods and services inflation declined from 5.3 percent to 4.5 percent.
