Inflation falls sharply in March
Monday,April 23,2007 Posted: 01:44 BJT(1744 GMT)  Bank of Botswana

Annual inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 6.3 percent in March, a significant fall from 7.2 percent in February. This moved inflation into the Bank of Botswana’s annual inflation objective range for 2007 of 4 – 7 percent, although it remained above the upper end of the Bank’s medium-term objective of 3 – 6 percent. Month-on-month, most commodity group indices showed only small movements. However, upward movements in the prices of food (1.4 percent) and alcohol and tobacco (3.9 percent), were offset by price falls in several commodity groups, including clothing and footwear (-0.9 percent), transport (-3.1 percent) and communication (-1.0 percent).
