A small inflation drop in February

Botswana Annual inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 7.2 percent in February, a marginal fall from 7.4 percent in January. This is 0.2 percent above the upper end of the Bank of Botswana’s inflation objective for 2007 of 4 – 7 percent. Month-on-month, most commodity group indices showed only small movements, except food, which increased by 1.1 percent, and recreation and culture, which declined by 1.5 percent. By tradeability, inflation remained at 7.5 percent in the tradeable category, while there was a further decline in inflation for non-traded goods and services, from 6.4 percent to 5.2 percent.
